मुगाच्या डाळीची खिचडी

Moong dal khichdi

Soft and plain on purpose, which is why a sharp achaar next to it tastes so good.

25 min · Serves 3

Eat it with

You need

  • ½ cup rice
  • ½ cup yellow moong dal
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • A pinch of hing
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • A few curry leaves
  • 1 green chilli (optional)
  • Salt
  • 3½ cups water

How we make it

  1. Wash the rice and dal together and soak for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker. Cumin, hing, curry leaves and the chilli, then the drained rice and dal with the turmeric. Stir for a minute.
  3. Add the water and salt and cook for 3 to 4 whistles.
  4. Stir well. It should be soft and loose; add hot water if it has thickened.
  5. More ghee on top, achaar on the side, and papad or curd if you have them.
